School girls from the "Da'at Mevinim" School in Petach Tikva volunteered for a day at Meir Panim. The initiative for the project came from Mr. Asher Frolichman, Chairman of Bank Tefahot who serves as a volunteer on the school's working committee. The girls not only wanted to help the needy by serving food in the soup kitchen, but wanted to do something more for the occasion, so they composed a special song. The school band played music during the meal.

A certificate of honor was given to the students as they were parting from Meir Panim as a sign of appreciation for the school's contribution in helping the needy.

Two young new immigrants from the former Soviet Union wanted to get married. However, they had no money or family here to help them. When the Kiryat Malachi branch of Meir Panim heard the story they offered to hold their wedding there with a festive meal accompanied by music. Thus the wedding took place there to the joy of all the participants.

Besides the regular diners a few family members managed to arrive, as well as friends and many others who came to share the young couple's happiness. The chef prepared a wonderful meal and the place was decorated like an elaborate wedding hall. One of Meir Panim's regular diners danced for hours and said that never had he attended a wedding like this one and this was the first wedding where he really could rejoice with a bride and groom.

4000 Diners Ate in the Meir Panim Succot Booths (Feast of Tabernacles)
19.10.2003
About 4000 diners ate in the Meir Panim Succot booths all over the country during the week-long Succot (Feast of Tabernacles) holiday. Many people volunteered to build the booths which were decorated by the handicapped from Elwyn Institutions. Various musical groups entertained the holiday diners in the Succot booths in order to help them follow the biblical commandment to rejoice during the 8 day festival. For most of the diners it was the only succa booth they visited during the holiday.

Rabbi Myron Fenster from Temple Israel, Great Neck, Long Island, New York visited the Kiryat Malachi branch of Meir Panim and was very moved at the sight of the children there. He promised that his congregation would continue support for Meir Panim.

A School Bag for Every Pupil
"A School Bag for Every Pupil" Project
31.08.2003
As the new school year opened today, about 8000 needy children went to school with brand new fully equipped orthopedic school bags on their backs donated to them by Power of Giving branches all over Israel to families recommended by the social welfare department and the schools. This was made possible by the "Meals for School Children" project.?

In Kiryat Malachi, 850 school bags were distributed in a manner designed not to cause any embarrassment to the children. The children were asked to clean their bags in the classroom and it was noticed by the Power of Giving representative that several of the pupils had only ordinary plastic bags instead of normal school bags. During the recess these children were given the new school bags.
